about

in 2014, ryan mccormick was going along on his merry way writing weirdo DIY pop songs about age restrictions, noise complaints and other issues in local music politics, when all of a sudden his life was struck by a trifecta of emotional weirdness. in december, his wife gave birth to their first child. in january, his brother passed away from complications due to diabetes. also in january, his father was hospitalized for severe dementia, and shortly thereafter he was moved to a seniors home where he remains today. naturally, ryan’s writing shifted to a much more personal perspective. when counselling proved futile, ryan intensified his songwriting efforts and began recording. the fruits of all this labour are available today on the new collapsing opposites album ‘dreamland,’ where pre-crisis songs about music politics are interspersed with intense emotional glimpses into a roller coaster year of family life, all united by the over-arching themes of sleeping, dreaming, resting, etc.
